Role of Aahar Vidhi in Sthaulya (Obesity): An Ayurvedic Perspective
Sthaulya (obesity), a Medovaha Srotas Vikara, arises from Kapha Dushti and Agnimandya, commonly due to improper Aahar Vidhi (dietary practices). This survey-based study investigated eating behaviors of 100 individuals aged 18–25 years (BMI >25) using Ayurvedic parameters: Ashta Aahar Vidhi Vishesh Ayatan, Viruddhashana, and Shadrasa Bhojana. The majority practiced Vishamashana (irregular eating), Adhyashana (overeating), and Viruddhashana (incompatible combinations), correlating with elevated BMI and waist circumference. The study underscores the clinical relevance of Ayurvedic dietary protocols in addressing the root cause of Sthaulya.
