Photo‐ and Thermo‐Responsive Switchable Smart Windows Developed by the Control of 3D Molecular Orientation of Chiral Liquid Crystals with Azobenzene Molecular Engineering (Adv. Funct. Mater. 27/2025)

Smart Windows In article number 2425115, Kwang-Un Jeong and co-workers newly design and fabricate thermally, photochemically, and electrically switchable smart windows by introducing photo-switchable surface vertical alignment agent and bulk alignment agent. The transparency of the 3D-ALC smart window can be automatically switched by changing temperature and light. The combination of surface and bulk molecular alignment layers can open a new strategy for developing next generation smart windows.

Abstract

Smart Windows In article number 2425115, Kwang-Un Jeong and co-workers newly design and fabricate thermally, photochemically, and electrically switchable smart windows by introducing photo-switchable surface vertical alignment agent and bulk alignment agent. The transparency of the 3D-ALC smart window can be automatically switched by changing temperature and light. The combination of surface and bulk molecular alignment layers can open a new strategy for developing next generation smart windows.
