The contribution of Valeriy Smoliy to the latest experience of rethinking the concept of “Revolution” in the practice of early modern civilization
The purpose of the article is to determine the scientific achievements of the leading Ukrainian scientist of our time, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Valery Smolii in the latest experience of rethinking the concept of "revolution" in the practice of civilization of the early modern period. Scientific novelty is due primarily to the formulation of a topical problem, in particular, the analysis of the personal contribution of Valery Smolii to the rethinking of the concept of "revolution" in the practice of civilization of the early modern period. The research methodology is the principles of historicism and scientific objectivity, a comprehensive approach, which is based on the leading methods of studying intellectual history, namely: socio-cultural, historiographic analysis, scientific, problem, chronological, historical-comparative, retrospective, etc. Conclusions. It is emphasized that in recent decades, Ukrainian historical science has begun an irreversible process of integration into the general historiographic field, which creatively accumulates the best practices of the world's scientific intellect. The cross-cutting methodological idea of the concept of "revolution" formed by V. Smoliy in co-authorship with V. Stepankov is the unity of Ukrainian history with the European civilization process, with an emphasis on the national specificity of the constitution of political and institutional structures in early modern Ukraine and the formation of mental and cultural and spiritual systems. The basis of this concept is the empiricism of the Ukrainian revolutionary events of the seventeenth century and the consideration of a distinct comparative context, which became possible due to the comprehensive application of modern methods and principles of scientific research developed in the methodological field of both historical science and other disciplines of the social sciences and humanities in heuristic perspectives to solve a multifaceted scientific problem. In the approaches proposed by the historian, the general methodological guidelines for presenting the revolutionary dynamics in Ukraine as a complex, multi-level and multi-channel interaction of domestic and international factors, with periods characteristic of revolutionary changes, are clearly traced. In proposing a new content for one of the most important concepts marking the Ukrainian political space of the early modern period, the author outlines the main fields of its problematic and thematic content in interpolation to the practices of early modern studies. It is shown that the National Revolution of the seventeenth century is inextricably linked to the main manifestations of Ukrainian civilization of the early modern period, in particular, the processes of founding the nation-state.
