Non-surgical Management of Immature Permanent Anterior Tooth followed by Single-step Mineral Trioxide Aggregate Apexification
Abstract Immature teeth with necrotic pulp and large periapical lesions are difficult to treat through conventional endodontic therapy. Periapical lesions develop as a sequelae to pulpal diseases and usually develop in non-vital teeth as a result of chronic aggression by the pathogenic microorganisms. In the era of minimally invasive dentistry, a non-surgical endodontic approach has been highly recommended in the periapical healing. The success of root canal treatment depends on thorough cleaning, shaping and obturation, as well as the placement of an effective intracanal medicament. This case highlights the use of calcium hydroxide-based intracanal medicament as an interappointment endodontic dressing in a traumatised immature tooth followed by single-step apexification with mineral trioxide aggregate, which resulted in favourable clinical and radiographic outcomes.
