Implementing YOLOv8 Deep Learning Framework for Bird Species Prediction
To keep the ecosystem in balance, birds are essential for activities including pollination, seed distribution, and pest control. Accurate tracking of bird populations and behavioral predictions are essential for effective environmental management and conservation initiatives. Due to their time-consuming nature and narrow scope, traditional methods like manual observations and field surveys are frequently insufficient for large-scale, real-time analysis. To tackle these issues, this work investigates how to apply the powerful deep learning framework YOLOv8 to improve bird species prediction on a variety of datasets. Because of its excellent object detection skills, YOLOv8 is well-suited for examining a variety of bird photos. The model's evaluation produced impressive results: the Precision-Recall curve showed a mean average precision of 0.916 at 0.5, the F1 Confidence curve reached a peak of 0.88 at 0.45, the Precision Confidence curve scored perfectly at 1.00 at 0.998, and the Recall Confidence curve stood at 0.95. These measures highlight how well YOLOv8 predicts and classes bird species, which holds great promise for global improvements in automated wildlife monitoring and biodiversity conservation. To improve real-time ecological monitoring capabilities, future research will work to further improve the algorithm, add wider variety of bird species to our dataset, and integrate YOLOv8 into automated systems.
