Managing Real-Time Mobile Applications in Reconfigurable Industrial Cloud-to-Things Systems
In recent years, Industrial IoT environments increasingly rely on a wide variety of applications with different performance requirements, such as real-time latency and ultra-high reliability. In this context, the Cloud-to-Things Continuum (C2TC) enables dynamic coordination of distributed computing resources from edge to cloud, offering a scalable approach to meet these demands. However, guaranteeing application-specific QoS in dynamic conditions remains challenging due to varying resource availability and application loads. The mobility of nodes further complicates the resource allocation process, as it affects the performance of both computing and networking resources. Additionally, system reconfiguration is needed in response to environmental changes or evolving application requirements to maintain the desired Quality of Service (QoS). This paper focuses on efficient resource allocation in C2TC-based IoT systems for real-time mobile applications and discusses ongoing research efforts in this domain.
