IoT-Enhanced Wireless Power Transmission for Smart and Sustainable EV Charging

The electrification of transportation as a sustainable solution to reduce carbon emissions and fossil fuel dependence is gaining momentum. Electric vehicles (EVs) present a promising alternative to internal combustion engines, yet their widespread adoption is hindered by challenges in charging infrastructure. This paper introduces wireless power transmission (WPT) technology integrated with the Internet of Things (IoT) to address these challenges. WPT uses electromagnetic fields to transfer electrical energy from a power source to an EV without physical connectors, enhancing charging convenience and accessibility. IoT facilitates real-time communication among charging components, enabling smart and autonomous operations. Through IoT sensors and networks, features like dynamic charging management, predictive maintenance, and automated billing become feasible. This paper outlines key components of WPT systems for EVs with IoT integration: power transmitter, vehicle-based receiver, and supporting communication infrastructure. It discusses benefits such as reduced maintenance, enhanced safety, and improved user experience. Implementing WPT with IoT promises significant environmental and economic advantages by boosting the EV market and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Challenges like interoperability, safety standards, and energy efficiency are also addressed. In conclusion, combining WPT and IoT holds the potential to revolutionize EV charging, making it more accessible and convenient while promoting sustainabletransportation goals.
