Low-Complexity Prescribed Performance Control of Jet Engine Compressors With Actuator Failures

This study addresses the trajectory tracking control challenge for a specific category of jet engine compressors facing actuator failures and model uncertainties. It is focused on the cases where the system nonlinearities are totally unknown; the specific values and chronological patterns of actuator failures are indeterminate; the control algorithm is as simple as possible. They render the existing control approaches infeasible. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a low-complexity prescribed performance control strategy. It constrains the tracking error within a predefined boundary, facilitating the system output to follow the reference trajectory at the specified speed and precision. Furthermore, it is free from the specific information regarding system nonlinearities, disturbances, and actuator failures. It also avoids parameter identification, function approximation, derivative calculation, command filtering, fault detection, identification, and magnitude estimation. Lastly, a simulation study is conducted to verify the theoretical findings.
