Personal finance plays a crucial role in the lives of undergraduate university students, who, when faced with financialindependence for the first time, must make economic decisions that will have long-term consequences. Manystudents manage limited incomes from scholarships, part-time jobs, or family support, making the proper managementof these resources essential to avoid issues like debt accumulation or an inability to save. However, the lack of formalfinancial education among young people contributes to significant financial mistakes, such as the misuse of credit cards, student loan debt accumulation, and the absence of saving habits. This essay explores the importance of financial literacyamong university students and how the lack of training in this area can negatively affect their future economicstability. Studies from key authors are analyzed, including Kiyosaki (2017), who emphasizes the need to understandthe difference between assets and liabilities, Mandell (2009), who highlights the low level of financial education amongyoung adults, and Lusardi & Mitchell (2014), who demonstrate the connection between financial education and personaleconomic stability. Through financial planning, proper debt management, and the promotion of a savings culturefrom an early age, students can significantly improve their financial well-being.
