A Rare Case of Conservative Management of Facial Antibioma Using Intralesional Steroid Injection in a Postpartum Woman
Abstract Antibiotics are used for both therapeutic and prophylactic purposes. These medications are widely used to inhibit the spread of odontogenic infections. Proper knowledge of the illness process, mechanism of action of antibiotics and monitoring the susceptibility of the bacteria to the particular medications are highly important for a good treatment outcome. Because there are no defined guidelines for using antibiotics in dentistry, they are frequently misused or abused. This causes medication resistance and other issues. Antibioma is a tough-walled abscess that usually arises as a result of poor pus drainage during infection and incorrect antibiotic administration by the patient. Here, we describe a case of antibioma caused by a prolonged odontogenic infection. Non-surgical treatment was done utilising intralesional injection of triamcinolone. The antibioma was completely reduced over the follow-up period.
