Oophorectomy Rates in Pediatric and Adolescent Patients With Adnexal Torsion in US Emergency Departments
(Abstracted from J Pediatr Adolesc Gynecol 2025;38(2):184–188 The optimal treatment for adnexal torsion is ovarian-sparing surgery; this diagnosis is uncommon in pediatric patients, however, and the approaches to management of the condition may be different in this patient population. Although the recommendations surrounding management in all patients include sparing the ovaries if possible, rates of oophorectomy are high in adults (approximately 70%) and varied among pediatric patients (5%–48%).
