What Is the Relative Value of a Baby?

(Abstracted from N Engl J Med 2025;392(5):424–425 This article is a narration of a personal perspective from a doctor as a patient delivers a baby, both the experience itself and what lies behind it in terms of health care structure. The first few minutes after delivery are crucial, and helping babies through them in the United States, where access to care is far greater than in many places, is easier than in other countries.
