Investigation of the effectiveness of disinfection of microbiological safety boxes with formalin, contaminated with smallpox vaccine virus

To study the possibility of reducing the amount of formalin in the reaction mixture while maintaining 100?% disinfection efficiency, studies were conducted on the possibility of reducing the amount of formalin from 25 ml/m3 to 6.25 ml/m3 and studying the disinfecting efficiency of disinfecting solutions based on 40?% formalin with the addition of a 15?% solution of tertiary amines or a 3?% solution of chloramine in relation to the smallpox virus. This combination of disinfectants suggests a possible reduction in the toxic load on personnel during disinfection of a class 3 isolation box after work with pathogenic microorganisms in it. Objective. To compare the residual infectious activity of the smallpox vaccine virus after disinfection of the working chamber of the microbiological safety box (BMB) of the 3rd class of protection by evaporation on the flame of an alcohol lamp or in a chemical reaction with KMnO4 of different amounts, both pure 40% formalin and with the addition of a 15% solution of tertiary amines or a 3% solution of chloramine. Methods. The suspension method was used to determine the residual infectious activity of smallpox virus by TCID50/ml after exposure to combinations of disinfectants. The effectiveness of disinfection was assessed using metal tests in accordance with the requirements of the guideline P 4.2.3676-20 [18]. Results. The results of the studies showed a change in the titer of residual infectious activity of the smallpox virus during disinfection of biotests by evaporation of a combination of disinfectant solutions based on 40?% formalin with the addition of 15?% tertiary amine solution or 3?% chloramine solution. The use of different concentrations of 40?% formalin and its combinations with selected disinfectants made it possible to reduce the total amount of formalin in the evaporated reaction mixture by half, with the same disinfectant efficiency. Keywords: disinfection, disinfection treatment, formalin, formaldehyde, fumigation.
