The effect of environmental organization on users' privacy in cultural places (Case study: Tehran Book Garden)

Introduction: Human and environmental studies show that studying physical space requires considering the activities in it.Cultural spaces are of particular importance because they have different potentials that cause various activities to occur, so finding the most important influential components in the design of cultural spaces is one of the most important issues that designers are looking for today. For this purpose, in this study, Tehran Book Garden was selected and analyzed as one of the prominent examples that has different spatial components.Examining the relationships between people in cultural spaces is effective in their spatial organization.Solitude is one of the social behaviors, it determines the distance and boundary between people, and with its help, a person can monitor and control his or her relationships with others.Mechanisms for achieving solitude in the physical environment are provided by appropriate organization of the environment and help designers to provide a platform with selectable spatial opportunities for the user.Methodology: The present study, while identifying the components affecting privacy, seeks to answer how the organization of the environment affects the privacy of users in cultural places such as the Tehran Book Garden. This research uses a combined (qualitative-quantitative) method to find those components of environmental organization that affect the level of privacy of users in cultural places. To achieve this goal, by utilizing library studies and reaching a theoretical consensus in interviews with experts in the field of architecture, the effective components of environmental organization on the privacy of users were extracted, which include communication and control, interconnection of spaces, geometric proportions of communication routes, legibility of routes, natural landscape and depth of space. Then, a questionnaire was prepared and distributed among users, and in analyzing the questionnaire data using correlation and path analysis, the model was explained and three functional, physical and behavioral cycles were extracted. Results: In the final model, the relationship between the components and their influence on each other has been analyzed and evaluated. Also, information collection was based on field observations using reliable sources and maps, and data extraction and analysis were analyzed using A-Graph spatial branch modeling software. Conclusion:The results based on the research findings show that there is a significant difference between the components affecting privacy in cultural spaces. From the users' perspective, the layout and legibility of the space are the most important criteria affecting privacy in cultural spaces, followed by invitingness, personal spaces, and multi-purpose spaces.
