Research on 3D Modeling of Real Scene of Ancient Timber Structures Based on UAV Tilt Photogrammetry

The preservation of historic timber structures holds paramount importance in safeguarding cultural heritage. These structures, owing to their inherent flammability, perishability, and vulnerability to insect infestation, necessitate a profound understanding of their structural integrity for effective conservation efforts. This research underscores the application of UAV tilt measurement and 3D laser scanning techniques in creating highly detailed 3D models of such structures. UAV tilt photography was employed to capture the exterior architectural features of the buildings, whereas 3D laser scanning provided intricate details of the interiors and complex structural components. Utilizing high-precision 3D data, a quintessential timber structure, exemplified by the Dong houses of Guangxi, was meticulously documented and visually represented through 3D modeling and refined 2D drawings. The survey methodology incorporated multi-source data fusion, encompassing a spectrum of technologies for data processing, integration, and apt representation and documentation. This integrated approach not only augments the protection of historic timber structures but also offers a comprehensive recording methodology for other culturally significant sites characterized by diverse elements and intricate spatial attributes.
