Limitations of an Asymptotic Solution in Predicting Radiation from a Monopole Antenna on a Conducting Convex Surface

An asymptotic solution based on the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (UTD) was developed earlier to predict radiation from a monopole antenna on a conducting convex surface. Limitations of this asymptotic solution are investigated by computing the mean square error (MSE) of its results relative to the results of the multilevel fast multipole method (MLFMM) obtained using FEKO electromagnetic simulation software as radius of curvature and near field distance are varied.

Abstract

An asymptotic solution based on the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (UTD) was developed earlier to predict radiation from a monopole antenna on a conducting convex surface. Limitations of this asymptotic solution are investigated by computing the mean square error (MSE) of its results relative to the results of the multilevel fast multipole method (MLFMM) obtained using FEKO electromagnetic simulation software as radius of curvature and near field distance are varied.
