Demo: Integrating Maneuver Coordination System with Autonomous Cooperative Driving
Cooperative maneuver coordination is essential to enable safe and efficient autonomous driving in connected environments. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) defined the Maneuver Coordination System (MCS), providing a standardized approach for vehicles to negotiate and execute maneuvers using Vehicle to Everything (V2X) communication. However, for these coordination mechanisms to be effective, they must be properly integrated with the vehicle’s autonomous driving system. This demonstration showcases the integration of the MCS with Autoware in an emulated two-vehicle scenario. The system enables real-time negotiation and execution of cooperative maneuvers, with monitoring available both locally through an On-board Unit (OBU) visualizer and remotely via the Aveiro Tech City Living Lab (ATCLL) web platform. By establishing a direct link between maneuver coordination and the vehicle’s control system, this demo illustrates the feasibility of integrating the MCS into autonomous driving stacks.
