A Fast Hybrid Method of Band Diagrams for Periodic Topological Insulator Using Multiple Scattering Theory and Broadband Green's Function

In many photonic systems, back-scattering is a major unwanted effect and significantly blocks the overall performance of the systems for decades. The Topological photonic system emerges with exciting developments in solid-state physics. The ideal property of unidirectional propagation opens a path toward the unprecedented applications of photonic systems. Traditionally, topological insulators are analyzed using commercial software such as COMSOL based on finite element method due to compatible Bloch periodic boundary. However, this procedure is often time-consuming because of volumetric discretization and poses a challenge for scientists and engineers to design and optimize the system. People demand a faster way to promote the mass application of this advanced technology.
