Effects of Mutual Coupling on Radiation from Monopole Antennas on a Conducting Convex Surface

The uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (UTD) is an asymptotic method that provides fields for different wave interactions separately. When it is used to predict radiation from monopole antennas on a conducting convex surface, it does not account for effects of mutual coupling between them. These mutual coupling effects and the limitations of UTD in predicting radiation from monopole antennas on a conducting convex surface are investigated by comparing the results of the developed UTD code with those of the multilevel fast multipole method (MLFMM) from FEKO electromagnetic simulation software as the geodesic distance between the antennas is varied.

Abstract

The uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (UTD) is an asymptotic method that provides fields for different wave interactions separately. When it is used to predict radiation from monopole antennas on a conducting convex surface, it does not account for effects of mutual coupling between them. These mutual coupling effects and the limitations of UTD in predicting radiation from monopole antennas on a conducting convex surface are investigated by comparing the results of the developed UTD code with those of the multilevel fast multipole method (MLFMM) from FEKO electromagnetic simulation software as the geodesic distance between the antennas is varied.
