V2X-enabled Coordinated OFDM Radar
In this paper, we investigate the coordination problem between multiple vehicles equipped with digital radar. An uncoordinated system of radars results in radar mutual interference, which degrades sensing performance due to increased false positives and false negatives. Digital radar, e.g., OFDM radar, compared to conventional automotive radar, i.e., FMCW radar, can exploit extra degrees of freedom offered by digital coding, which can be optimized for coordinated radar systems. Optimization of the code requires specific knowledge from other vehicles. Given current off-the-shelf technologies, such as V2X communication and positioning, we set the scene for a coordinated radar system, where a central unit establishes a well-specified process for optimized code assignment among vehicle cluster participants. We propose a signal design scheme and an efficient algorithm for the coordination of vehicles equipped with digital radar.
