Understanding the Core Drive Implementations and Social Experience on Co-op Party Game: Analysis of Overcooked 2
This study explores Overcooked 2, a cooperative cooking game, through the lens of the Octalysis Framework, which identifies eight core drives that influence player motivation. The research aims to understand how Overcooked 2 leverages game design principles to engage and motivate players. Using a qualitative methodology, the study analyzes gameplay mechanics, narrative, and visual design to assess how elements such as achievement, social interaction, scarcity, and unpredictability are integrated into the game. Key findings reveal that cooperative gameplay, challenging level designs, and rewarding progression systems effectively align with the core drives, creating a dynamic and engaging player experience. The game experience questionnaire results show that the conclusion of the scale results in a high level, while the highest score is considered very high for the game experience questionnaire test scale, with an average score of 3.687 on a scale of 1 to 5. The study's impact is significant for game developers seeking to design games that maximize player engagement through individual and collaborative play.
