Fortifying Edge Cloud Systems for Enhanced

As the number of interactive as well as location-aware services continues to rise, there is a clear transition from employing distant data centres and instead implementing these services in the resource-scarce edge domains. It brings several management concerns at the network edge especially in terms of maintaining resiliency. Such issues require deep analysis and technologies addressing them must be developed, For this in our work we look at deploying open-source programmable asset orchestration in edge cloud systems so that acceptable operational recovery and performance can be achieved even when a system is involved in an incident such as faults, congestion, or even cyber-attacks. We present Edge Cloud Systems (ECS) as a cross-level configurable solution that we describe in terms of design and deployment. These are some of the reasons why, in spi of the intensive testing of ECS, advanced service and resource management algorithms integrated into the data and control planes of the programmable edge system show the opportunity. These algorithms are useful in handling interference from agains such as control channel problems, service overloads and network congestion. Some of the key features of ECS include, The system can go to stand-alone operation mode if disconnected from higher level controllers and is thus capable of continuous service. It has dynamic service deployment whereby edge virtualized services are deployed on the fly as clients request them while at the same time supporting resource optimization as well as the efficiency of the services that will be provided. Client traffics are smartly processed by the edge services in contrast to the congested proximity; hence to maintain the edge availability and avert traffic loss, OND Routing Paths are also provided to proceed in parallel with the edge traffics. Also, the system will shield TCP traffic from the impact of competing UDP flows to help achieve equal quality of the network. A high-level multi-thread cluster manager coordinate a set of redundant controllers using a new, light-weight management protocol which improves the performance and availability of the system. Thus, we underscore the ECS’s capability to potentially duly bolster the robustness and efficiency of edge cloud systems. Abstract

This research emphasises the importance of the effective and efficient orchestration and management mechanisms to satisfy organisational needs of edge computing.
