Energy Savinator 6000: An IoT-Driven Adaptive Room Control System with Multi-Sensor Integration
The demand for energy continues to rise significantly over time. Inflation, the escalating cost of energy, and a constrained supply have resulted in substantial increases in electricity prices. Furthermore, power grids and household-level transformers have ratings; exceeding these can lead to grid failures and transformer overloads. Individual households can benefit from systems designed to reduce electricity consumption, provided that 1) these systems do not compromise daily comfort and convenience, and 2) they offer a return on investment through energy savings. This project entailed the development of an electronically fundamental, stripped-down system using only two ATMEGA 328P microcontroller units. The proposed system autonomously regulates HVAC and lighting based on sensor data inputs. Control actions are executed via relay modules. The prototype was deployed in a controlled environment simulating a standard room layout to validate the potential energy savings generated.
