Realization of a broadband high-performance linear polarization transmissive manipulator for x/y-polarized waves based on a split-ring metasurface
Abstract We proposed a broadband, highly efficient linear transmissive polarization manipulator (TPM) based on a split-ring metasurface. Simulations demonstrated orthogonal polarization conversion between x- and y-polarized waves with >99% efficiency across 10.53–30.32 GHz, while experimental results showed a slightly reduced bandwidth due to fabrication tolerances. The ultrawideband performance stems from three coupled resonances, as validated by field distributions and Stokes parameter analysis. Moreover, the proposed TPM exhibits exceptional thinness (only 8.3% of the maximum operating wavelength) compared to published designs. This design enables low-profile, broadband polarization control for millimeter-wave communications, satellite systems, and radar cross-section manipulation.
