STAVOVI RODITELJA O PREPOZNAVANJU DAROVITOSTI KOD DECE

Identifying giftedness is a delicate, systematic process, which is why competency in this field entails one’s consideration and attentiveness to its various aspects and the different ways in which it can be manifested. The aim of this research was to examine parents’ attitudes toward the recognition of giftedness in children, as well as to determine whether and how demographic characteristics, such as gender and age of the parents, are significantly related to their attitudes. The results of our study indicate that parents’ attitudes regarding the identification of giftedness in children do not differ significantly based on gender or age. Furthermore, our results suggest that parents integrate criteria posited by contemporary theories of giftedness into their understanding of the concept, and that, rather than limiting their perception of giftedness merely to its intellective aspect, parents regard different types of characteristics, both intellective and non-intellective, as significant for the identification of giftedness.
