INTERKULTURALNI PRISTUP PODUČAVANjU ENGLESKOG JEZIKA NA TERCIJARNOM NIVOU: PRIMERI IZ PRAKSE

In today’s multicultural world, intercultural communicative competence has become one of the most important competences on which the success of intercultural communication or communication between people of a different cultural background depends on. As a result, English language teaching can no longer be reduced to only teaching linguistic skills without considering the vital component of language ‒ culture. As a result, a new method of teaching English, which is equally focused on both language and culture, has emerged. However, teaching English with an intercultural approach has proven to be rather difficult in practice and can represent a difficult task for English language teachers. Hence, this paper analyzed the basic principles of an intercultural approach to English lan- guage teaching at the tertiary level, concrete steps of how to apply this method in practice as well as specific lesson plans with an aim to help those English language teachers who are interested to apply this method in their class.
