Creative associations of Soviet variety art during the Cultural Revolution (a historiography)

The aim of this research is to establish a periodization in the historiography of works dedicated to the study of creative associations of Soviet variety art during the years of the Cultural Revolution, and to characterize each period according to its specific features. The article examines the particularities of authors' approaches to interpreting the activities of variety ensembles, highlighting historical stages for which one or another approach is characteristic. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the classification of works dedicated to Soviet variety art during the years of the Cultural Revolution within the framework of chronological and disciplinary approaches. The research has established that the works of authors from the first post-revolutionary period can be attributed to historical, art-historical, and cultural studies perspectives. The historiography of variety art in the early post-revolutionary years is mainly represented by fundamental works devoted to the theatrical and musical creative environment. Studies by cultural scholars and art historians note an attempt to trace the cultural origins of the formation of variety art and to comprehend the stylistic directions of new forms of variety art. A positive assessment of the activities of political elites in relation to variety artists is characteristic of authors of the "pre-war" and "post-war" periods, while a contradictory attitude of researchers is characteristic of the modern period. Historical studies primarily highlight the problems of interaction between variety artists and the state.
