Fostering patriotism in schoolchildren through foreign language education based on the application of the project-based method (a case study of the International Children's Center "Artek")

Alongside instruction, upbringing constitutes an integral component of the educational process in schools. The purpose of this research is to identify the potential of the project-based method for fostering patriotism in schoolchildren during foreign language instruction. The article underscores the necessity of incorporating patriotic content into the foreign language learning process. The scientific novelty of the work lies in its proposition of a method for cultivating patriotism in students during foreign language lessons: the application of the project-based method utilizing cultural material about their own country and region. Furthermore, it presents a study of the influence of employing the project-based method in foreign language instruction on the level of patriotism development in schoolchildren. This research was conducted at a secondary school within the International Children's Center "Artek," where, during camp sessions, children from all regions of Russia are educated. The work proposes the use of the project-based method as a supplement to the teaching and learning materials complex, serving as a means of patriotic education for schoolchildren. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the introduction of supplementary patriotic content into the process of foreign language acquisition based on the project-based method is an effective way to cultivate patriotism in students in general education schools.
