DARK TRIAD OF PERSONALITY AND SEXUAL SATISFACTION AND QUALITY OF LIFE AMONG YOUNG ADULTS

<ns3:p>Abstract: Interpersonal relationships, particularly intimate ones, play a crucial role in shaping quality of life, especially during early adulthood. The Dark Triad of Personality, characterized by socially undesirable traits, may negatively influence the ability to form lasting relationships and achieve sexual satisfaction.Goal: This study aimed to measure the correlations between Dark Triad traits and sexual satisfaction and quality of life among young adults. It also sought to examine differences in these variables across groups categorized by sociodemographic characteristics.Material: The study involved 262 participants (mean age: 26.79 4.94 years), including 191 women (mean age: 26.53 4.83 years) and 71 men (mean age: 27.48 5.18 years). Methods: Data were collected using a sociodemographic survey and Polish adaptations of validated psychological questionnaires: the Dark Triad Dirty Dozen, the Questionnaire of Sexual Satisfaction (KSS), and the WHOQOL-Bref (World Health Organisation Quality of Life-Bref). Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, Spearman’s correlation coefficients, group comparisons via the Kruskal–Wallis test and U Mann–Whitney test, and post-hoc analysis with Bonferroni correction. Results: Strong positive correlations were found between intimacy, affection, and overall well-being. Moderate correlations were observed between sexual activity and social and psychological well-being, while weak correlations were noted between sexual activity and physical and environmental well-being. Weak correlations were also identified between intimacy, affection, and all components of quality of life. Among Dark Triad traits, narcissism positively correlated with physical well-being, whereas Machiavellianism negatively correlated with intimacy and social well-being, and psychopathy negatively correlated with sexual satisfaction. Conclusions: Sexual satisfaction may be positively associated with quality of life. Narcissism appears to enhance physical well-being. Machiavellianism may be negatively connected with intimacy and social well-being. Psychopathy may be negatively related with sexual satisfaction.</ns3:p>
