Use of Probiotics in Managing Gastrointestinal, Metabolic, and Immune-related Diseases
Abstract Probiotics are a promising therapeutic approach to managing a wide range of health conditions, including gastrointestinal, metabolic, and immune-related disorders. Live microorganisms are known to provide health benefits by modulating the gut microbiota, enhancing intestinal barrier integrity, and regulating immune responses. The study’s objective is to explore probiotics’ role in managing various diseases by evaluating their mechanisms, therapeutic benefits, and clinical applications. Clinical studies have demonstrated their efficacy in conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and atopic dermatitis. Despite the potential, significant challenges include strain specificity, dosage optimization, and individual variability in response. Overcoming these limitations will require further research into strain-specific effects and personalized probiotic therapies using multiomics approaches. Probiotics will be integrated into precision medicine frameworks to allow for more effective and tailored therapeutic strategies. The mechanisms of probiotic action, their role in disease management, and future directions for optimizing their clinical application are reviewed.
