Cross-cultural Adaptation and Measurement Properties of the Marathi Version of the Headache Activities of Daily Living Index in People with Headache

Abstract Objective: The headache activities of daily living index (HADLI) questionnaire was developed to measure limitations in ADL living in people with headache in an English population. Translation into Marathi language may facilitate its use for clinical and research purposes for the Maharashtra state of India. Study Design: The cross-cultural adaptation of the HADLI questionnaire into Marathi language was undertaken according to recommended guidelines. Psychometric testing included assessment of internal consistency, test–retest reliability, standard error of measurement (SEM), minimal detectable change (MDC), minimal clinically important difference (MCID), and construct validity. Results: A total of 130 people with headache with a mean age of 45.15 years (standard deviation 14.76) self-completed the HADLI Marathi (HADLI-M) questionnaire. Internal consistency (α = 0.71) and test–retest reliability was good (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.82–0.91) with SEM and MDC 1.19 and 3.31, respectively. The area under the curve was 0.83 (95% CI: 0.98, 0.72) with an MCID of 4.53 points out of 45. The HADLI HADLI-M score correlated moderately with headache frequency ( r = 0.74) and intensity ( r = 0.59). Conclusion: The HADLI-M version demonstrated good reliability and validity in people with headache in the Indian Marathi-speaking population.
