The kidneys are among the most vital organs in the human body, responsible for various metabolic and regulatory functions.Renal complications such as renal cirrhosis, viral nephritis, fatty kidney disorders, and hepatorenal syndrome are increasingly contributing to global mortality rates.Current pharmacological treatments for renal disorders are often associated with limited efficacy and significant adverse effects, highlighting the need for alternative therapeutic approaches.Consequently, the use of plant-based or herbal remedies has garnered considerable interest in various regions and countries.Herbal phytoconstituents have shown promising potential as effective alternatives for hepato-renal protection. These include diverse chemical classes such as alkaloids, strychnine, polyphenols, glycosides, and lignans.Furthermore, several polyherbal formulations composed of multiple herbal ingredients have demonstrated efficacy in managing hepatic pathophysiological conditions. This ariticle provides an overview of phytochemicals employed in the treatment of renal conditions, including cirrhosis, fatty kidney disorders, nephritis, and renal cancer.
