Enhancing Financial Sustainability in Notarial Services: Streamlined Processes Through Digitalization
This research explores the transformative potential of digitalization in enhancing financial sustainability and operational efficiency within notarial services in Indonesia, with a focus on the case study of Kantor Notaris Justriany Koni S.H., M.Kn. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the study combines in-depth interviews, structured observations, and document analysis to examine pre- and post-digitalization scenarios. Findings reveal that traditional notarial workflows, characterized by manual document handling and administrative redundancies, have led to rising operational costs, limited service capacity, and declining profit margins. However, the implementation of targeted digital tools—such as electronic signatures, automated scheduling, and e-billing—demonstrates significant benefits, including cost reductions exceeding IDR 600 million annually, projected revenue growth from IDR 7 billion in 2024 to IDR 13.2 billion by 2030, and improved staff productivity. The study further assesses risks related to legal compliance, cultural adaptation, and technological investment, concluding that digitizing non-statutory processes under existing regulations presents a strategic opportunity for sustainable growth. The case of PT Pepper Services Indonesia reinforces these findings, showing a 900–1200% increase in notarial transactions following digital adoption. Overall, this research highlights that incremental digital transformation offers a viable pathway for modernizing notarial practice without compromising legal integrity.
