Biography of the Hero of the Great Patriotic War in the Context of Family’s Collective Memory

The article is dedicated to the hero of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), Colonel Boris Mikhailovich Son, major battles participant, including the Battle of Moscow, the Kursk Bulge, Warsaw liberation, and the capture of Berlin. The novelty of the article is due to the fact that for the first time a comprehensive review of the hero’s biography was carried out. The article, based on the first published information from the home family archive, in which many original documents and artifacts have been preserved, reveals the features of the social status of the Baranaev family, whose descendant was Boris Mikhailovich Son. His years of study, participation in hostilities, and post-war service in the Soviet army are described from the words of his children, so this study has oral historical nature. The author of the article is Alla Olegovna Volgusheva (granddaughter of Faina Mikhailovna Son, Boris Mikhailovich’s sister), who is one of the last descendants of the Baranaev family.
