Vehicle Speed Limiter with Collision Detection by Cloud or GPS using Embedded System: Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)

India has the second-largest population and fastest-emerging economy in the world. Many people are killed by road accidents in India every year. Overspeeding is the major traffic rule violation every year in India and is the major cause of the road accidents not only in India but also in other countries as well. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized speeding" as one of the five risk factors in road accidents. According to the report “ROAD ACCIDENTS IN INDIA – 2017” by the “Ministry of Road Transport and Highways," around 70% of the total number of accidents and around 67% of the total number of persons killed are due to OVER-SPEEDING of motor vehicles. The father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, once said, “There is more to life than simply increasing its speed.” The statement still holds true today, maybe more than ever before. This research paper focuses on the system where we can limit/control the overspeed of the motor vehicle based on the locations, such as residential areas, city sides, highways, etc. This will help in reducing road accidents, especially those due to the overspeeding of vehicles. This proposed system will also integrate collision detection of vehicles, which means in the event of a collision, vehicle/location accident details are shared with the traffic control room, ambulance, relatives/friends of the driver, etc. so that emergency support can be given to the accident location.
