Wilderness Survival with Bozo
To what extent should you let children “learn by doing?” In this work of philosophical short fiction, two boys, fueled by books and bravado, embark on a winter wilderness survival trip they meticulously plan but are profoundly unprepared for. As their idealized adventure devolves into a desperate struggle against the brutal cold and their own inexperience, their carefully laid plans unravel. Eventually one of the boy’s father appears as a rescuer, offering not just hot chocolate and warmth, but a quiet, unspoken lesson about the limits of youthful confidence.
