The Ascension Review of Xebob Zebble
Does progress demand honesty about personal moral failings, even at the cost of ambition? In this work of philosophical short fiction, Xebob, a MalPar-A seeking the esteemed role of Interaction Guide, faces an ascension review shadowed by accusations of past morally questionable interactions with MalPar-B's. Growing up in a time of shifting societal views on MalPar-B rights – from chattel to near-equals – Xebob engaged in practices now widely condemned. As he sweats in the hallway, he wrestles with a critical dilemma: confess his past actions and risk his ambition, or lie to secure the coveted position, forcing a choice between personal integrity and societal recognition in a culture grappling with its own evolving morality.
