Research on crop planting strategies based on linear programming and robust optimization

One of the most valuable aspects of agriculture is its buying and selling strategies, and focusing on optimizing those strategies increases planting yield. Traditional strategies, however, suffer limited flexibility and robustness under multiple constraints and market fluctuations, making them less practical for real-life application. In order to cope with these bottlenecks, this paper puts forward the crop-planting strategy model based on linear programming and robust optimization. This is achievable considering factors such as planting area, season, crop type, market price, and other constraints. It employs a proper loss function and feeds historical data from a particular region. If using actual data from 2023 as the benchmark, the profit calculated by the model is 5,869,633.25 yuan. In contrast, the average profit from 2024 to 2030 based on different forecasts will only be 9,000,945.29 yuan, 1.53 times the profit in 2023. The proposed model is showed to provide much more flexibility and steadiness compared to the traditional strategies against the volatility of the market prices and the fluctuation of the crops yield. All in all, the profitability of the model is significantly greater than that of classic strategies, meaning it is more applicable as the basis for planning and decision making for crops in the long term.
