Research Status and Progress of Digital Twin Models for Electric Power System Equipment

With the development of smart grids, traditional methods for managing and maintaining grid equipment are becoming inadequate to meet the increasingly complex needs of power systems. Digital twin technology, as an advanced digital means, achieves real-time monitoring, prediction, and optimization of the entire lifecycle of grid equipment by creating virtual replicas of physical entities. This paper focuses on research into digital twin models for grid equipment, exploring their applications and challenges in improving operational and maintenance efficiency and ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the electric power system. The paper first introduces the technical characteristics of digital twins, then presents three digital twin models for grid equipment: a substation power equipment inspection system model, an ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) system model, and a reality-based modeling model. Finally, it looks ahead to the future trends in the development of digital twin models for the electric power system and draws conclusions.
