Analisis Kelimpahan dan Pola Aktivitas Tapir (Tapirus Indicus) Berdasarkan Data Kamera Jebak di Taman Nasional Way Kambas
The Malayan tapir (Tapirus indicus) is a mammal that plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of its ecosystem. According to the IUCN, this species is classified as Endangered and included on the Red List. This study aims to determine the abundance and activity patterns of tapirs in Way Kambas National Park (TNWK). The research was conducted in collaboration with the Sumatran Tiger Rescue and Conservation Foundation (PKHS). A total of 12 to 26 camera traps were deployed purposively in SPTN I Way Kanan and SPTN III Kuala Penet, operating 24 hours a day from 2022 to 2024. Data were analyzed using the Jim Sanderson software, and tapir abundance was calculated using the Relative Abundance Index (RAI). The results showed RAI values of 7.07 in 2022, 13.40 in 2023, and 1.38 in 2024. The increase in the 2023 RAI value may be attributed to a greater number of cameras and improved placement in areas with higher tapir activity. Tapir activity was primarily recorded between 17:00 and 06:00 WIB, with behaviors including feeding, drinking, and running. This study contributes valuable ecological data on the abundance and behavioral patterns of tapirs in Way Kambas National Park.
