A discrete fracture network calculation method based on source location and source spectrum

Abstract The stimulated reservoir volume (SRV) is a key metric for evaluating the effectiveness of hydraulic fracturing reservoir modification, primarily calculated using microseismic monitoring positioning results. Traditional SRV calculation methods, such as the binning and envelope method, rely solely on microseismic location information, overlooking the intrinsic relationship between microseismic events and fractures. This study introduces an enhanced SRV calculation method: first, the density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) clustering analysis technique is employed to eliminate noise point interference; based on location information, source information is further integrated to improve SRV calculation accuracy. By incorporating microseismic source radius constraints to construct a discrete fracture network (DFN), the fracture plane is innovatively discretized into evenly distributed point sets; following another DBSCAN clustering analysis, the irregular envelope model is utilized to compute the final SRV value. Synthetic data validation indicates that the interpretation model incorporating source radius information can significantly enhance the rationality of calculation results; increasing the density of discrete points can make the outer contour of the interpreted area point set clearer, thereby yielding interpretation results that are closer to reality. In practical data applications, this method demonstrates significant performance advantages, providing an innovative solution to the field of microseismic interpretation. Future research may further explore the possibility of integrating more source parameters to continuously optimize the microseismic interpretation technology system.
