Numerical modeling of flame interaction with mesh flame arresters

The problem of explosion-proof structures development has been relevant throughout the existence of the coal mining industry. A number of technological devices are used to combat fires and explosions. The aim of the work is to simulate the interaction of the methane-air mixture flame propagating in the channel with the elements of the VLZ-U "Start" barrier. A mathematical model of the interaction of the shock wave and flame during the explosion of methane-air mixtures with the barrier has been developed. The mathematical formulation of the problem consists of the conservation equations for the mass, momentum and energy of gas and particles, taking into account heat and mass transfer and momentum exchange between the phases. The system of the equations of the mathematical model was solved numerically using the Ansys-Fluent computing package. For spatial discretization, a counter-flow scheme of the second order of approximation was used. The parametric calculation of the ignition of the methane-air mixture and the subsequent interaction of the flame with explosion-proof meshes placed in the channel cross-section was carried out. The data on flame extinguishing during the interaction of the combustion wave with grids with water curtains are presented. The effect of droplet dispersion and mass flow rate of water during the formation of water curtains on the extinguishing of the flame of a methane-air mixture is shown.
