Climatic characteristics affecting the animal production environment in Al-Manathira district
This study explores the effects of the semi-arid climate in the Al-Manathira District—characterized by high temperatures, limited rainfall, and intense solar radiation—on animal production. These environmental conditions contribute to heat stress, decreased feed intake, weight loss, and reduced milk yields in livestock. An analysis of local meteorological and agricultural records indicates that elevated temperatures and low humidity exacerbate health challenges in cattle, sheep, and goats. The study underscores the necessity of adaptive measures, including shaded shelters, improved ventilation systems, water conservation techniques, and nutrient-rich forage, to alleviate the adverse effects of climate conditions. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of tailoring livestock management practices to align with regional climates and advocates for innovative agricultural policies to strengthen the resilience of animal production systems.
