UTELOVLjENOST UMA: KONCEPTUALIZACIJA EMOCIJE „TUGE“ U ENGLESKOM JEZIKU
This paper deals with the term sadness as a prototypical emotion from the point of view of the theory of an embodied mind introduced by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson (1999). Due to the interaction between our mind and body and the laws of nature, it is possible to distinguish a twofold role of sadness as a prototypical emotion in underlying the theory of an embodied mind: it affects perception and conceptualization of reality and provokes certain bodily reactions. Therefore, the aim of this research is to analyse the way in which sadness is conceptualised in English language through theoretical frame review and further analysis of idiomatic expressions reflecting the emotion of the speaker in question, based on the corpus analysis of media, literature and psychological discourse and dictionaries. The results of the research provide an insight into the fact that these idiomatic expressions serve as manifestations and are mere applications of general physical reactions to the laws of nature (the unpleasant feeling of falling, moving downwards, being under pressure, being drained, breaking and exhaustion) to expressing emotion of sadness. Moreover, it has been concluded that sadness can affect our perception and nconceptualization to the point of cognitive distortion.
