Trade Policy, Migration, and Labour Markets: A Comparative Analysis of some Developing and Developed Countries

This paper examined the intersections of labour markets, migration, and trade policy, emphasising the different effects seen in industrialised and developing countries within the framework of globalisation. It employed a comparative method to investigate how migration and trade liberalisation alter worker supply, demand, and pay structures in various economic contexts. Using theoretical frameworks of the Heckscher-Ohlin and economic theory-based models, the study analysed the impact of trade liberalisation on labour market outcomes (employment, wages, and income inequality) in some developing and developed countries. The comparative analysis highlighted challenges such as pay stagnation and job displacement in specific sectors of industrialised economies and opportunities such as economic expansion and employment creation in developing economies. The findings contribute to the ongoing discussions on the distributional effects of globalisation, highlighting the complex and occasionally different economic outcomes that industrialised and developing countries experience. Policymakers in both situations can benefit greatly from this study's insightful recommendations for balanced trade and migration policies that maximise globalisation's positive effects while reducing its negative effects on labour markets, income distribution, and social stability. The study concluded that because of differences in labour market systems and factor endowments, the combined effects of trade and migration will be very different in developing and developed countries.
