Interpretation of Mou Zongsan’s Interpretation of Confucian Moral Metaphysics from the Perspective of the Principles of Heaven and Earth
Mou Zongsan’s interpretation of Confucian moral metaphysics from the perspective of Yi studies is mainly concentrated in his later Yi studies work “Lectures on the Philosophy of the I Ching”. He pointed out that in the principle of heaven and earth in Yi, the Qianyuan represents the principle of creation and the Kunyuan represents the principle of ultimate achievement. The Confucian moral metaphysics is contained in these two hexagrams of heaven and Earth. The moral and ideological principles contained in “heaven and earth” transcend and internally summarize the wisdom of Confucianism, while “Yi Jian” reveals the path of Confucian moral practice, capable of achieving the vertical connection between the essence and morality. Mou Zongsan’s interpretation of the basic theories of Confucian moral metaphysics and his integration of the I Ching thought as a whole into his philosophical system have guided the direction for the modern interpretation of Chinese classical thought.
