De la renovación urbanística de Santa Cruz de La Palma al retablo mayor de la iglesia parroquial de Tuineje: representaciones de ataques corsarios en Canarias durante la Edad Moderna
The history of the Canary Islands during the Modern Age is irremediably linked with the pirate events that took place on their coasts. Numerous privateers targeted the archipelago, and the impact that these raids, or their attempts, had on the artistic and urban planning sphere was by no means negligible. The objective of this article is to combine these threats and invasions with some representations that gave a good account of them and that created a collective island ideology of protection and fight against the invader, as well as a personification of the evil and vices in the pirates, and of virtue in the figure of the Canaries and their rulers.
