Semiotics and phenomenology as the face and backside of contemporary architectural practice and theory
This paper covers the core of research conducted within the framework of contemporary architectural practice and theory with the specific goal of applying a defined methodological framework in architectural creativity. The identified problem is defined in accordance with the noticeable absence of unity within the field of architecture, the beginning of which marks the end of the absolute influence of the late avant-garde. The permanent absence of unity is recognized as a need and an opportunity for establishing an agreement between the position and opposition of contemporary architects. A clear presentation of the applied methodology shows the possible path and starting point of architecture today. This assumption is based on the defined limitations of the two most widely represented theories: semiotics and phenomenology. The limitations are constituted in relation to Popper?s philosophy that defines the growth of scientific knowledge. Given that the two aforementioned theories have become more complex and modern over time, this framework covers their key points. This is because the desired result is their application today, in relation to their original character. Therefore, the complete semiotics and phenomenology are not problematized, but rather the postulates of scientific knowledge are used to influence the concretization of their direction, whatever it may be today or will be. This work criticaly aims at a union of architectural practitioners and thinkers in order to achieve a stronger influence on the centers of power before which the intensity of the profession?s inferior feeling is increasing.
