Sensitivity Analysis of Concentric Perforated Tube Resonator Models

An analytical model of a concentric perforated tube resonator (CPTR) is used to perform parametric and sensitivity studies to assess the impacts of the different parameters of the CPTR on the transmission loss (TL). The theoretical TL of a CPTR shows good agreement with the finite element method. For the sensitivity analysis, the model input parameters are the inlet diameter of the CPTR, the outer diameter, the perforation ratio of the tube, the perforation diameter, the thickness and the length of the perforated tube while the output is the TL. The sensitivity study shows that the resonant peaks of the transmission loss are controlled by the inlet and outer diameters with respective sensitivity indices around 50% while the length of the perforated tube affects mainly the anti-resonances of the transmission loss with a sensitivity index higher than 85%. The sensitivity indices of the perforation diameter and the thickness of the tube remain low. The standard deviation of the TL increases as the variability of the inputs parameters increases. The variability of the input parameters of CPTR resulting from the manufacturing process will impact the TL and the frequency range. Thus, the target acoustic attenuation efficiency and frequency range can be missed because of manufacturing defects.
