The Construction Process of County Women’s Identity in Digital Employment—A Case Study of Project A

The “14th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035” explicitly states the need to “promote women’s equal employment and narrow the income gap between men and women,” emphasizing the importance of “improving women’s digital literacy.” Women are not only guardians of their families but also important participants in socio-economic activities. As a unique group, county women face the construction, deconstruction, integration, and reconstruction of their identities in the context of the digital age. This study examines the process of identity reflection and reconstruction among this group, showcasing how they forge a more internally dynamic self and social identity under the new conditions of digital employment. This not only emphasizes understanding and concern for women’s mental and physical growth but also provides practical significance for exploring the reshaping of women’s identities in the digital era. Using Project A as a case study, this research deeply analyzes the journey of county women from role confusion leading to identity anxiety, through the phases of initial recognition and adaptation to digital careers, to the awakening and reconstruction of identity supported by the public welfare project. It illustrates the construction of women’s identity recognition as an interplay between internal and external factors, and the coupling of subjective and objective elements, vividly reflecting the power of women in the digital age.

Abstract

The “14th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035” explicitly states the need to “promote women’s equal employment and narrow the income gap between men and women,” emphasizing the importance of “improving women’s digital literacy.” Women are not only guardians of their families but also important participants in socio-economic activities.
